Yoga in Vagator: classes, getting there and season

What Vagator is like, where classes are held, how to get there and when to go: briefly and with approximate figures.

What the area is like

Vagator has reddish cliffs and coves next to Anjuna. Chapora Fort stands nearby, and the hills and cliffs open views of the sea.

It suits those who want views and a variety of class formats. It is not as busy as the centre of Anjuna, but not as quiet as Mandrem and Ashwem either.

Other areas of the north: Arambol, Mandrem & Ashwem, Anjuna. Further south: Palolem and Agonda. The overview of the season, areas and styles is on the Yoga in Goa page.

Where classes are held

Classes are held on the beach and on viewpoints, in shalas and studios, and in hotels and guest houses. The timetable depends on the weather and the season.

Check the exact place, time and teacher in the Aura timetable: the address and map pin are in every booking.

Formats and styles

The most common are drop-in classes (you can come for a single class), courses of several meetings, retreats of several days and teacher training programmes for future teachers. What is on the timetable depends on the season and the teacher.

Among the styles, people most often name Hatha, Vinyasa, Ashtanga, Yin, Kundalini and Restorative. For a first time people often pick hatha or yin, but the teacher always states the style and the level.

How to get there

Goa has two airports: Dabolim (GOI) in the south and Mopa (GOX) in the north. By taxi to the area it is approximately 45–60 minutes from Mopa and 1–1.5 hours from Dabolim. This is approximate: the time depends on traffic and the season, and the roads are busier in the high season.

Season

November to March is the high season: dry, with the most classes. April to May is hot, and classes move to early morning and evening. June to September is the monsoon, and most shalas are closed. This is approximate: the dates change from year to year. More in the season overview.

What to bring

A yoga mat, light clothes, a water bottle, sun protection and your documents. The full list is in the What to bring guide, and your first class is covered in the beginner guide.
